Comodo Trustix Statement - European Commision Microsoft Ruling
Comodo applauds the European Commission's decision to fine Microsoft $615 Million - this is an important, precedent-setting decision. We believe this decision is important for consumers but also for increased innovation and competition worldwide.
The Commission found that Microsoft has abused its dominant position in desktop operating systems and use this to create an unlawful advantage in the server market. In particular the Commission found that Microsoft has not been competing on its merits, but instead used interoperability between its desktops and servers to override other factors of server performance offered by its competitors.
"Microsoft is a great company, but its operating system is a rigid black box, closed code," says Melih Abdulhayoglu, President and CEO, Comodo.
"Linux is open source and is more secure and stable. You can audit the source code to see if it is vulnerable or not. We provide Trustix™ Secure Enterprise Linux the most secure and reliable operating system designed for servers. This decision by the European Commission will help Linux as the decision seeks to create a level playing field in the server market place. Products can then compete on merit."
"I am confident that Linux-based products and services will be the market leaders for the back office, as long as they are compatible with Microsoft products at the front end. Indeed, many vendors are already getting their house in order to accommodate the anticipated growth in the Linux environment. As an Advanced IBM Business Partner and Leader for Linux ISV we both focus heavily on the Linux. Demand for Linux is very strong and the Commission's ruling against Microsoft can only strengthen its position."
